Hi, I’m Gunnar!

Welcome to my corner of the internet! I’m a technology leader, digital strategist, AI enthusiast, and lifelong photographer who’s been fortunate to blend those passions with a 20+ year career in global shipping.

By day, I’m the Manager of Digital Applications at a global shipping company, where I help steer the digital backbone of a company that manages a global fleet of chemical tankers and storage terminals. By night (and often in golden-hour light), I’m out capturing the world through my lens—seeking those quiet, powerful moments that only a camera can freeze.

Let me take you on a quick journey through what I do—and why I love it.

What I do at work

At work, I’m part of our Corporate IT Management Team, leading a talented crew of application specialists, integration developers, and support professionals. My role blends strategic leadership with hands-on delivery. I manage our digital application portfolio, integrations architecture, and local IT support operations.

What drives me isn’t just delivering IT projects—it’s building high-performing teams, enabling innovation, and helping people grow through technology. Whether we’re rolling out Starlink across our fleet or integrating new AI-powered solutions, I focus on outcomes, ownership, and team energy.

Some highlights of my journey so far:

  • 🌍 Rolled out FBB, VSAT and Starlink internet to connect vessels sailing at the seven seas
  • 💻 Deployed Microsoft 365 and Teams across offices and vessels to unify communication and boost collaboration
  • 🌐 Established a global IT support center in Philippines, a powerhouse for 24/7 service delivery
  • ⚙️ Leading numerous automation, integration, and lifecycle management projects that bridge maritime operations and cloud technologies

I’ve visited shipyards, sailed with our vessels , and helped align our IT systems with the physical reality of life at sea. From bow to stern, I’ve learned how our ships work—and how tech can make them work smarter.

The Tech I Love

I’m deeply passionate about emerging technologies, particularly AI, automation, cloud computing, and satellite communication. There’s something incredibly exciting about watching the shipping industry embrace intelligent tools—optimizing everything from fuel efficiency to real-time maintenance alerts.

I believe the future of maritime isn’t just connected—it’s cognitive. I constantly explore how we can apply artificial intelligence and data-driven platforms to create safer, greener, and more efficient operations.

The Photographer in Me

Outside the office (and in the office) , you’ll often find me with a camera in hand.

Photography teaches me patience, timing, and observation—skills that also happen to be crucial in tech leadership. Whether it’s capturing a remote harbor at sunrise or the interplay of light and shadow on a ship’s hull, photography is how I recharge, reflect, and stay creatively sharp.

You can say I see the world in apertures and architecture, whether it’s the elegant lines of a building or the beautiful peaceful nature.

Why It All Matters

Whether I’m leading a digital transformation initiative or composing a photo of a sailing tanker at dusk, I believe in the power of perspective. Technology isn’t just about systems; it’s about people. Leadership isn’t just about results; it’s about growth. And photography isn’t just about light; it’s about storytelling.

That’s what I try to bring to every project, every partnership, and every picture I take.
